SOURCE21, the adult touring company of The SOURCE Real
Life Real Theatre from Planned Parenthood of SW and Central
Florida, is pleased to announce a series of free
community performances of our nationally acclaimed play,
The Day I Opened My Eyes at the Backlot, October 20
22. The production will later travel to Washington, D. C.
for a special performance for members of Congress. In
addition to these performances, a limited number of touring
dates are available to community groups.
SOURCE21 has been awarded a generous
grant from Planned Parenthood Global Partners in Washington
D.C. to tour the play across the state of Florida.
Hard-hitting and painfully honest,
The Day I Opened My Eyes deals with such issues as
poverty, the lack of family planning in developing nations,
HIV/AIDS, illegal abortion, and honor crimes. Using
powerful monologues, music, dance, and larger than life
photography, five college students travel on an imaginative
journey into the lives of young adults from different
countries around the world, merging emotion and politics
into real life stories of global youth.
This is a unique
opportunity for Florida residents to see the play that has
toured the United States for the past three years, including
SOURCE tours to California, New York, Washington,
Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, D. C., Virginia, and
Michigan. SOURCE Director/Producer, KT Curran spoke about
the project, In this period of global terror and strife,
there has never been a more important time for young people
to reach out to different cultures in an effort to
understand the vital, human issues that unite us all.
