[ highwaymen exhibit ]
This
extraordinary exhibit shares the creativity and skill of 26
young black Americans who found a way to support their
families, during the years of segregation, by painting
landscapes of tropical scenes. When the only jobs available
at the time were in the groves, this group of men, and one
woman, sold their art from the trunks of their cars along US
Highway 1, hence the moniker. The art is recognized
nationwide as the beginning of Florida’s contemporary art
tradition. On loan from the
Orlando Regional History Museum, the exhibit is at the
South Florida Museum in
Bradenton. Call 746-4131 |

tropical forest of the Andes where she lives. Call 366-5731 |

[ artist relief program ]
The Tipitinas
Foundation has started a new Artist Relief program. Many New Orleans
musicians are stranded away from what used to be home, and without ANY
instruments at all. Their
website has a place for artists to list their needs, as well as a
page for donor offerings. If you have some old musical instruments or
support gear cluttering up your garage, this is a good place to offer it
to those in need! |
