After graduating from the University of Kansas, with a BA in Photojournalism, Forrest spent five years studying commercial photography at Booth Studio, Inc. Forrest is a former faculty member of Ringling Shcool of Art & Design and is a free-lance photographer. His most recent art show was at Metamorphosis the Gallery.

The Eighth Annual Sarasota Film Festival is March 31 – April 9 and now is the time to get prepared for the festivities. Each year the SFF brings hundreds of films, documentaries and shorts to town along with special events and symposiums. Visit the web for details.

The original cast of the award winning play, “Anna, Leona & The Lady Luck”, return to Sarasota for just one weekend at the Glenridge Performing Arts Center. The play was written by local playwright and actor Jeffrey Kin and was first seen as the winner of the Players Theatre annual The Play’s the Thing in 2003. From there “Anna” went on to win best drama and best actor awards for Kin and co-star Pamela Wiley. Tickets are just $10 for this special engagement and advanced reservations suggested. “Anna” hotline at 552-3665.

Contemplation and Action: The Drawings and Paintings of Richard Upton exhibit is currently open in the Selby Gallery of the Ringling School of Art and Design. The exhibit highlights Upton’s work as he considered the Tuscan landscape from 1982-99.

It’s a Grind Coffee House serves up live Acoustic Entertainment three nights per week with dessert and fresh brew. The small intimate café makes for a great experience. Why are so many comedians from Brooklyn? It’s not exactly what I would call a hotbed of funny. Elayne Boosler is one of the country’s most recognized comedians and will be at McCurdy’s Comedy Club this weekend. Enjoy the act that has made Elayne a hit with live audiences around the globe, on TV and even with the Queen (of England - not Richard Simmons).

You have two opportunities to catch the award-winning Slide Guitar Champion Kraig Kenning on Saturday. First, Kraig will be at the Downtown (Sarasota) Farmer’s Market, in the morning, and two shows that night at Stir the Soul Coffeehouse in Venice. Kraig has been likened to Clapton, Allman and Dylan. Live at the Fogartyville Café, Skinny McGee and His Mayhem Makers will bring a foot stompin’ good time of Rockabilly music on Friday 17. On Saturday it’s Richard Gilewitz and fingerstyle guitar (For the second time today, I have heard fingerstyle and never before. So I looked it up; “Finger-Picking is a specific and complex melody style which allows one guitar to do the work of two by placing a treble-string melody over a constant bass-string accompaniment.” -Bob Baxter)
