Featured Artist of the Month
(click here to nominate our next artist)

Anita Wexler

Anita is originally from Illinois and graduated from the Parsons School of Design in NYC. She uses acrylics and oil on canvas, which she mixes with found objects to create 3D and textured artwork. Color is ever present and naked bodies frequent. Each work evokes a different response; some are easy on the eye and gentle, others are not. The one sure thing is that her work is eye-catching. You can enjoy Anita’s work beginning February 2 at The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota County. An opening reception is planned for February 9 from 4-6.

[ vocabulary pop quiz ]
What does supernumerary mean? Ever heard of it? Well, the Sarasota Opera could use a couple. As an adjective it means, “exceeding what is necessary or desired, superfluous.” As a noun it sounds better: “an actor without a speaking part, as a walk-on or an extra in a crowd scene.” So the Opera needs the nouns (see the back of the heads in the photo? Supers, as they are called). Contact Greg Trupiano at 366-8450 x 420 for details. (photo by Deb Hesser)
