Our Featured Artist for this issue is
Dominic Avant.
Dominic’s art is said to be a fusion of realism and
impressionism. He employs a strong sense of light and
vivid colors enhanced by fluid brushwork and deep
emotional content.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Avant
now calls Bradenton home and teaches at the
Ringling College of
Art & Design. Prior to that he was employed by Walt
Disney Feature Animation and worked on films like “Mulan,"
“Tarzan," “The Emperor’s New Groove and “Lilo & Stitch.”
Dominic has won numerous national awards from The
Artist’s Magazine, the Portrait Society of America and
won the Best in Show at Eastern Regional Oil Painter’s
of America exhibition. |

Anyone who frequents downtown Sarasota is sure to
recognize the subject of the painting above, Michael.
The piece is called “Almost Home” and is on exhibit at
M Gallery of
Fine Art on Palm Avenue, downtown Sarasota.. When
Dominic told Michael about the painting he laughed and
applauded in apparent understanding and pleasure. The
painting is so peaceful and calm and one can only hope
that Michael experiences those feelings too. |

Beginning October 7
[ improv classes ]
Florida Studio Theatre’s
new
Improv Class begins soon and registration is now. Improv is not only
entertaining for the audience; it’s even more fun for the participant.
Students will make strides toward becoming comfortable in their own skin,
overcoming stage-fright, learning to communicate more effectively and to
think on their feet. The class starts out slow for all student comfort
levels and each week builds on the last. On a personal note,
Christine
took
classes at FST and is now part of the
FST Improv Troupe. Rick took the beginning, intermediate and advanced
classes and enjoyed them all. If you can put your qualms aside to try
something new, this is the most fun you can have with you clothes on
(underwear optional). Call 941-366-1350 for more information. |
