This week we are featuring animation films created by
the
Ringling College of Art & Design seniors. They
are each unique and exceptional short films and we hope
you’ll take five and enjoy them (click on the photos
above to play). Good going guys! (“guys” in a
non-specific, gender neutral all-inclusive kind of way)

May 28
[ liberally drinking ]
Drinking Liberally Sarasota is an informal group of like-minded, at least at
the beginning of the evening, people that gather here and there to imbibe
and enjoy fellowship and some political conversation. You don’t have to
necessarily be liberal, however if you are a Palin supporter don’t expect
that kool-aid to be served, they prefer reality punch. So, stop by and enjoy
from 7:30 pm on at the Cock and Bull
on Cattlemen in Sarasota. (where is the
“art” in this story? Hmmm, I bet there is music. Doesn’t matter, I just
don’t get enough opportunity to get Palin jabs in.)

May 29 – June 14
[ fools in venice ]
The Venice Theatre opens “Why Do Fools Fall In Love?” and their description
was so good that I decided to simply cut and paste it here: “From the
creator of The Marvelous Wonderettes and Route 66 comes an exciting musical
look at love in the 60s! Four girlfriends gather to celebrate the upcoming
wedding of one of their own. As the bachelorette party picks up steam and
the drinks flow, the girls discover more about each other’s love lives than
they had ever imagined. With classic 60’s music, "Why Do Fools Fall in Love?"
re-affirms that during real-life struggles, friendship will unveil its
everlasting strength. And it does it with a real rockin' beat!” For more
information and to buy tickets call 941-488-1115.

[ write on ]
Another cut-and-paste, I love it: “Theresa Rose, award-winning author of
Opening the Kimono: A Woman's Intimate Journey Through Life's Biggest
Challenges, will be doing a workshop called "Turning Your Emotional Trash
Into Literary Treasure: How to Transform Dark Secrets into Marketable
Publications." She will discuss the power behind emotional exhibitionistic
writing, ways in which fledgling writers can create a market for their
material, and the therapeutic benefits associated with creatively exposing
our hidden emotional traumas and poor choices. Theresa will also read
several excerpts from her book and answer questions. The majority of class
time will be dedicated to developing author voice, identifying hot writing
topics and brainstorming outlines, chapters and writing strategy. The cost
of the workshop is $60 and advance reservations are required.” The event is
1:00 – 5:00 pm at Elysian Fields in Sarasota. Call 941-361-3006.

This quote is not attributed to anyone else, so it may be by Malika Shay:
“You Dance inside my chest where no one sees
You, but sometimes I do, And This Sight Becomes This Art."
DevaDance is described as “...a
series of moving meditations, ecstatic free-form dance, group-unity
exercises, breath-work, and chanting to World Music, Guided Visualization,
and Art Imagery. No dance experience required. Make new friendships and
experience a healthy community in a creative and fun way.” Space is limited,
so call 941-806-7301 for reservations and information. The event time is
7:10 – 10:00 pm at Rising Tide International.
