"Intersections," an exhibit of paintings by Cheryl Moody, is the newest
feature at ArtCenter
Manatee’s ComCenter Gallery, 9040 Town Center Parkway in Lakewood Ranch.
Born and raised on the banks of the Manatee River and beaches of the Gulf of
Mexico, Cheryl’s work shows “a sense of spontaneity and a warm color

[ what price freedom? ]
The opening reception of the Family
Heritage House Museum at Manatee Community College’s new exhibition “What
Price Freedom?” is from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. Featured regional artists are Arthur
Dillard, Eleanor Merritt, Gale Fulton Ross and Gregory Rumph. The mixed-media
paintings and text are intended to evoke dramatic remembrance of black people
who risked imprisonment, and even death, in pursuit of freedom. 5840 26th Street

The Foundation for Manatee Community
College annual POPS event will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Sarasota
Polo Club. Take in the “swing” sounds of the Florida West Coast Symphony while

Jake Pinto along with regular weekend jazz vocalist Carol Ettman beginning

Program at New York University, and this is a special opportunity to hear an

Special screening of Ken Sons’ documentary film “Knuckleball,” the story of
Brett Leake who was diagnosed with
MS at the age of 13. Brett has become a nationally recognized comedian
appearing on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno five times. His stand up/sit down comedy
has, in fact, taken him all over the world. Executive Producer and Director
Ken Sons will address the audience

[ June 8 & 9 ]
Auditions for the Manatee
Players’ production of “The Will Rogers Follies” are June 8 and 9 at the
Manatee Players, 102 Old Main Street, Bradenton, at 7:00 pm each evening. Come
prepared with a song and dressed appropriately for the movement portion of the
audition. The large cast includes actors, singers and dancers age seven and up.
Especially needed are specialty acts including rope tricks, jugglers and dogs
that can perform tricks. The cast includes many showgirls. Questions? Call Rick

Call for Artists
Florida’s Art in State Buildings Program announces a new public art project
at the University of North Florida. The Brooks College of Health Addition
has a budget of $25,800 and the art selection committee is open to
commissioning site-specific work and/or purchasing existing artwork.
Interested artist can view the new Call by going to the
Facilities Planning
& Construction website and clicking on

Links, and then
Call to Artists. The submission deadline will be 5:00pm,
