Featured Artist
Vince Carmen

Vince
Carmen, founder of Houdini’s Showplace (in the
Sarasota Hotel and Marina, 7150 N. Tamiami Trail in
Bradenton), has been performing his magic across the
world for over three decades. He performs with his wife
Yvonne (known as “the first lady of the unicycle”
because she tosses cups and saucers to balance on her
head while riding a six-foot tall unicycle) and his
daughter Erika. Vince says, “Our show is performance art
as we present it, and it’s for anyone who wishes to
suspend belief and be amazed. The sophisticated public
understands that magic is not just for kids.”
As a master magician, Vince has performed at the
Flamingo Hilton Hotel in Vegas for the long-running show
called "City Lights." He performed at Harrah's, and
spent a year playing the Scala Theatre in Madrid. He
captivated the other side of the world during his New
Zealand tour by turning beautiful women into roaring
tigers. He was also a featured performer at Circus
Circus in Vegas for eight years. Vince’s other tours
include magical performances in Canada, Rio de Janeiro,
Argentina and Puerto Rico.
Versatility is the key to Vince’s success. He has
conquered the total spectrum of magical skills from
sleight of hand to making horses and even cars full of
women disappear. Vince’s multitude of talents garnered
him a feature story in Magic magazine, and just this
past week he was awarded the Society of American
Magicians’ Presidential Citation.
Houdini’s Showplace show times are Thursday, Friday and
Saturday nights from 6:30 - 9:00 pm, beginning with
cocktails and tableside magic, a buffet dinner, and then
the show. Cost is $39.95 for adults, $19.95 for children
ages five to 12, and free for kids under age five. For
reservations, call 941-925-8021. Visit

[ special film screening ]
Sarasota’s new Documentary Film Society (DFS) is
screening “Knuckleball,” by local producer and comedian
Ken Sons.
The screening is at 10:30 am on May 31st at the
Lakewood Ranch
Cinemas. Ken will be on hand after the 70 minute
screening for Q & A with the audience. A portion of the
proceeds will help the Documentary Film Society get
rolling. The DFS mission is to enhance the appreciation
of documentary films as both entertainment and as an
educational catalyst to increase awareness and promote
action. The DFS plans to produce a couple of
documentaries each year about a local non-profit or
cause. The production will be at no cost and provided
for those non-profits that can not otherwise afford the
expense. Sponsorship funding opportunities (Producer
Credit) exist for those who’d like to help their special
cause receive much deserved recognition.
