Featured Artist
Kevin Webb

Kevin Webb is a lot like Clark Kent. At first glance he’s a gentle, thoughtful person immersed in life's details, but in a heartbeat he transitions into a multi-talented artist and poet with the spirit of a playful child. I like both of them.” This is how Bonni Brown, resident of the Village of the Arts, describes Kevin Webb. He’s an accomplished artist, poet, author and current president of the Artists Guild of Manatee, the governing umbrella of Bradenton’s Village of the Arts. He lives and works out of his home studio and gallery, Liberal Artz, on 10th Ave. West in the Village.

Webb, who grew up along the shores of the Great Lakes, creates colorful and beautiful furniture and wall art incorporating wood, copper, glass and found objects. His flame-chased pieces are cut from heavy sheet copper that has been etched and heat-treated. Synthetic enamels in a polymer epoxy base are then applied to the hot copper and heated to create the patterns and glass-like finish.

Many of Webb’s pieces combine his artistic vision with original verse. His art and poetry can be found in galleries and collectors’ homes along the Gulf Coast. His poem fish are combined wood and copper. Each displays a portion of one of his poems on the front, and the complete poem on the reverse. His non-poem fish are all copper, colored with heat and pigments, and finished with a heavy clear coat. His restaurant style tables are wood tops with wood or metal pedestal bases. Designs are done in acrylic and the finishes are combinations of urethanes and epoxies. Kevin Webb can be reached at kevin27webb@yahoo.com. (Story and photos by Lin Oakerson.) Not only is he clever, he's charming in some weird hobbit way.” Catch Zan’s 15-minute opening act June 20 and 21 at the 7:30 and 9:45 pm shows, and on June 22 at the 7:30 pm show. 941-925-FUNY to reserve tickets.
