Featured Artists
Dolly Jacobs and Pedro Reis

Circus, oh we got Circus,
Right here in Sarasota city!
With a capital "C"
That rhymes with "T"
And that stands for Tickets,
That stands for Tickets.
We've surely got Circus!
Right here in Sarasota,
Right here!
Gotta figger out a way
To be truly entertained!
Circus, Circus, Circus |
Ok, so we took liberties with a standard from the
“Music Man," but make no mistake, we “got”
Circus Sarasota
right here in Sarasota and tickets are on sale now for
performances February 1 – 24. Haven’t been? Then you
don’t know what you are missing. Circus Sarasota
founders Dolly Jacobs and Pedro Reis are our Featured
Artists this week because they exemplify artistry on
many levels.
Dolly Jacobs started her career in 1976 with Ringling
Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, following in the
footsteps of her father; legendary clown Lou Jacobs.
Dolly thrilled audiences on the Roman Rings for eights
years before joining The Big Apple Circus in 1984. She
has traveled extensively throughout the world and is the
undisputed queen of aerials. Dolly is one of the very
few circus artists who has been invited twice to
participate in the International Circus Festival of
Monaco - each time winning the Dame du Cirque (Lady of
the Circus) award and in 1988, the coveted Silver Clown
award. In January 1997, Dolly was inducted into the
Circus Ring of Fame at St. Armand's Circle and in
January 1998 the Ringling Circus Museum Hall of Fame.
Pedro Reis was born in Cape Town South Africa and began
his circus career at age 12, later becoming a founder of
the first circus school in that country. He is the
recipient of numerous circus competitions and traveled
the world before and after his 1984 debut with Ringling
Brothers. One of Pedro’s proudest moments was earning
his US citizenship.
Make no mistake that
Circus Sarasota
is something special and it is right here… ours! It’s a
circus in the tradition of the European Style Big-Top
and truly a spectacle for all ages. Read more and order

[ american stage ]
The American Stage
Theatre Company, St. Petersburg, presents “Moonlight

Gone With the Wind. He pulls Victor Fleming off of the set of
the Wizard of OZ and they lock-down for five days to save the
script. This is the American Stage’s last production in their

February 6 – 24
[ fst ]Kicking off the
Florida Studio Theatre
Stage III season is “In
the Belly of the Beast.” Eric at FST gets an A for sending us a great
release that we are repeating most of here: “In the Belly of the Beast”
explores the criminal mind. A delinquent foster child, Jack Henry Abbott was
imprisoned at a young age. He was robbed of nurturing, cut off from any
human contact for more than twenty years. Knowing only primal survival
instincts, he lived a constant struggle to remain human, like a solitary
light bulb flickering in and out of Sanity. Once released into the world,
the ravishing beast inside took over any human spirit he had left. Directed
by Debra Whitfield, the show was called “awesome, brilliant, perversely
ingenuous” by The New York Times. The cast will include David Sitler as
Abbott, Patrick Jones and Douglas Coler. Call 941-366-9000 or
click right
here for more details and tickets. |
