Su Byron

Su Byron. To most
folks in Sarasota, her name is synonymous with public
relations and marketing. They know her for her left
brain activities; as the kind of person who can get her
creative ducks in a row for creative clients. As a
freelance publicist, Su’s clients include: the
FSU/Asolo Acting Conservatory; the
Van Wezel Foundation;
La Musica
International Chamber Music Festival. As a hired
gun, Su has done stints with the Sarasota County Arts
Council and the Flanzer Jewish Community Center. Hey, we’re
talking serious duck-herding ability here. But here’s
something a lot of people don’t know …
Su’s got some serious creative lightening strikes of her
own going on in the right side of her brain. Along with
Marty Fugate, Su was the co-editor of the late lamented
Sarasota Arts Review for 12 years. (Marty’s the guy
who’s writing this – when he’s not lamenting.) She’s a
poet – not a mere label she applies to herself – Su’s
got poetry in her DNA. Collisions of words the French
symbolists would be proud of pour out of her at a
moment’s notice. Along the way, she’s written a few
short stories Gogol would be proud of. A number of
poetry and short story anthologies have liked her stuff
enough to print it over the years. Hey, I’ve even heard
a rumor she had a punk band – the Young Hemorrhage – in
New York City back in the 80s.
Su’s one of those people who keep both sides of her
brain fired up. She gives hope to the rest of us, who do
our best to keep our wits about us. Rock on. (written

[ stella performance ]
The Venice Little Theatre brings the classic
Streetcar
Named Desire to the stage in October for just three weeks. Tickets are

very purposefully, as it was widely seen as a city of seething sexuality,
passion and seduction; the play’s disturbing sexual messages were both more
palatable and more apparent in that setting.” And don’t forget about The Big
Bang opening tomorrow night. Heck, just go to the
website and check out all
