Piero Rivolta. Rivolta, an artist on many levels: designing and
building cars, yachts, racing boats and even snowmobiles. He was
instrumental (pun intended) in the creation of
La Musica
International Chamber Music Festival in Sarasota. He has even
raised and managed race horses. In recent years, Piero has turned
his creative energies to writing fiction and has published two
novels:
Sunset in Sarasota and
Just One Scent: The Rest is God. A third novel will be published
in October, entitled
Alex & the Color of the Wind. |

[ peace and books ] Aidan Delgado, a 2006 graduate of New College of Florida, will kick off his book tour at 7:00 pm at Sudakoff Hall on the campus of New College for The Sutras of Abu Ghraib: Notes from a Conscientious Objector. Delgado served with the U.S. Army Reserve in Iraq and is now an active member of Iraq Veterans Against the War and the Buddhist Peace Fellowship. Books will be available for purchase at the event and Delgado will sign books following his presentation. September 4 Ok, I learn something new with every issue. For example, I had no idea that making things with beads was so popular that there are shops, classes and even contests and awards. Now I know! At BEADS FOB you can join Award Winning Bead Artist Karen Johnson and develop your beading skills in off loom needle weaving techniques from 10:30 am -1:30 pm. Opening September 7 [ big bang ] The Big Bang runs through September 23 on Venice Little Theatre’s Pinkerton stage. The play originally ran Off-Broadway and is a full throttle comedy: In an elegant Park Avenue apartment, two house sitters and wannabe producers try to line up backers for their original musical. Titled: The Big Bang, it would be the most expensive Broadway musical ever produced, with a budget of $83 million a cast of 318 with 6428 costumes and 1400 wigs. |

Opening September 15 [ photos de cuba ] Photographs celebrating Cuba's natural landscape by renowned photographer Clyde Butcher will be on view in the Ulla R. and Arthur F. Searing Wing at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. The photographs included in Clyde Butcher's Cuba will be shown concurrently with the Cuba Avant-Garde: Contemporary Art from the Farber Collection exhibition, in the Ringling Museum's Searing Wing. |

[ call for artists ] ArtCenter Manatee will be scheduling artists for the new satellite gallery space at the ComCenter at 9040 Town Center Parkway in Lakewood Ranch. They are looking for high quality, fine art from individuals or groups of artists to exhibit their artwork including original paintings, gicleés or prints for two months at a time. The next available exhibition months are October/November, 2007 and then again April/May, 2008. Artists interested in applying for the exhibit space can fill out the application available on their website. All artwork will be juried. Rental for this space is $400 for the two month time span.
